Two pictures, almost exactly 4 years apart!
I really wanted to redraw this one because this was the first time I really tried to draw two people close together without references. I was in my freshman year of college and it took a long time, but I was ultimately happy with the result. I still like this picture a lot and there are some nice colors and details that I need to remind myself of for later art. >>
The second one is in the new style I've been working on. Again, no reference beyond remembering what the first one looked like (which is why it's reversed LOL) The second one happened a lot faster, because I've gotten much better at posing without reference, and also because the style is simpler, which was the entire point of me adopting it (so I can draw comic pages faster.) Simpler styles have a certain downfall to them though, if you mess up, it's way more obvious, where as if you're drawing something more detailed or anatomically correct, you have some breathing room for small mistakes. I made the mistake of having Tadhg's arm and Devlin's leg awkwardly intersect in the original sketch, so I had to mess with that a bit on photoshop to keep everything looking believable.
Ultimately, though it's so much more simple, I really like the newer one more. It's
got a lot more life to it. ; )
